Machine Vision Technology and Motion Tracking.

Indigo Vision is a growing company that offers some serious competiton for VLab.  Like wise Genetec of Quebec offers similar features as Indigo Vision.  Both of these companies have implemented MPEG-4 and distributed systems. Though they may integrate floor plans with the location of cameras, they do not include automated tracking of objects in grid space, and across camera views.

Point Grey research is a camera manufacturer specializing in spatial imaging, they would have an interest in a tracking solution.

March Networks is a growing company and could well be a party interested in VLab's development of tracking software.

overview

Our business strategy is to be a one-stop-shop for partners to buy either off-the-shelf products for Live Networked Video applications, or license the technology they need to get into the Live Networked Video business. Partners include Baxall, Ultrak, Panasonic, Securicor and StorageTek.
In a discussion with CEO Oliver Vellacott, we rolled up everything into revenues of about $100 for each camera sold.
Over time, cost reductions across all digital surveillance products will push
this per-camera income to under $15, Oliver projects. However, he thinks
the number of cameras sold per year will increase a hundredfold from
today's 5 million, driven by lower hardware, installation, and management
 costs.
As the technology develops, more processing (such as face recognition) will  be pushed out to the cameras themselves, increasing the need for  management tools to handle networks of camera-resident applications and  databases. And even with good data compression, increasing surveillance   will tax existing networks. Demand could grow for routers to handle this  traffic on the public Internet, and will certainly grow for the installation of   private networks.

IndigoVision uses industry standards wherever possible to maximize interoperability and minimise development. Where standards do not exist or lack required features, IndigoVision develops its own solutions. One example of this is the companyâs VideoBridge protocol for intercommunication between Live Networked Video devices that view,  record, retrieve and analyze their video.

This protocol sets up connections between devices, controls their operation and terminates connections. It has been  designed to enable the creation of the next generation of video products with the smallest size, lowest cost and lowest power consumption.

The company also has 3 sales offices, in London, Boston, and Tokyo and was listed on the London Stock Exchange (IND.L) in August 2000.   The company is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland.

VideoBridge Control Center is a highly scalable application that allows local or remote management of any CCTV system, from anentry-level system with small number of cameras, to a large installation with several hundred cameras.  VideoBridge Control Center  links the benefits of  VideoBridge compression and transmission technology
with IndigoVision's unique Networked Video Recorder (NVR) to
provide a complete solution for digital CCTV.
Any sequence of recorded video can be analysed and a motion graph
timeline displayed. This timeline can then be used for navigation of the
recorded footage and to quickly  identify sequences of interest. Using a simple grid overlay areas to watch or
ignore in the scene can specified before searching. ÎControl Centerâ also
provides a list of times that significant motion occurred in the sequence. All these tools provide the user with simple, yet powerful tools for searching long sequences of recorded video.

VideoBridge ÎControl Centerâ Software provides the full functionality of the most sophisticated analogue management systems, plus such features as remote viewing from anywhere, multiple views of the same camera, user authentication, audit trail and secure camera access at a fraction of the price  of analogue systems.

IPSOTEK
Intelligent Pedestrian Surveillance system (IPS)

The software, which analyses CCTV footage, could help spotÊsuicide attempts, overcrowding, suspect packages and trespassers.
Too many cameras and too few pairs of eyes to keep track of them.

Sergio Velastin at Kingston University, London, has spent a decade developing his algorithms (New Scientist print edition, 11 December 1999). The trick, he says, is to keep it simple. Face recognition software by its very nature involves complex image analysis and tries to do too much. As a result, operators are often disappointed

It was the product of 10 years of research and collaboration between six European countries, in a European Union funded project. Now Velastin has set up a company, Intelligent Pedestrian Surveillance and Observation Technologies (IPSOTEK), to market the technology.

Already, he says, organisers of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela festival in India have contacted him. They want to use CCTV with automatic surveillance to help manage congestion and prevent people being crushed or injured next spring when more than a million pilgrims are expected to descend on the town of Ujjain in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The total number of CCTV cameras in Underground stations across London is set to increase from 6000 to 9000 over the next few years, and they are also being installed on trains. That will make the need for a system like IPS all the more acute.

This pattern is being repeated in cities around the world.

The Director of Ipsotekk, Sergio Velastin , has experience in implementing distributed systems.

communications, electronics, and networks

Communication Systems

We have experts in all fields of communication systems ready to assist you with your developments. We have been developing fixed and mobile systems since the company was founded in 1956 and are still leading the way today. Naturally we are world leaders in Cellular Systems, including 3G (UMTS) and 4G
technologies, but also in Broadcast, Satellite, and short range Ultra Wide Band systems. As well as having developed the world's first DAB receiver, our other work and achievements in communications include Software Defined Radio,Location Technologies for pin pointing the positions of handsets, and naturally we are also very active in the standardisation bodies to help define future communication systems.

Electronic Sensors

Our work in this area covers a very wide range of fields and applications which are continually expanding as more uses our found for our technologies. For example, we have applied our Acoustics knowledge to diverse applications as artillery fire location and communications. Other fields include Electro-magnetic Sensors (where our Epsilonú tool was developed); Imaging Systems, which brought us Hawk-Eye and Number Plate Recognition;  Positioning and Timing Systems including our multilateration and sub-nanosecond time synchronisation system; Radar - from assisting us parking our cars to the development of naval radars; Stealth Engineering and counter stealth engineering (CELLDARú); and also Electro-Optic Systems.

Networks

Closely tied to our work in communications is also our expertise in networks.
We can assist in developing network systems from design and simulation through to deployment where we can also help with network management. We are familiar with wireless networked systems as well as the development of various network services (such as Internet applications and web management technologies) to run on this and other types of network. On the hardware side, we are world leaders in routing technology and TCP Accelerator/Enhancer technologies.

TCP Accelerator/Enhancer

Using standard Internet protocols with these
channels can conflict with their physical characteristics, severely limiting the
efficiency of delivery.

How the Technology Works

To combat this problem engineers at Roke Manor Research have developed Internet enhancer technology that can dramatically improve the throughput and efficiency of Internet data sent over these bearers.  Our technology is quick to download, easy to use and requires no changes to the handset or PDA which speeds up the delivery of web pages and other FTP traffic such as e-mails.

Installed in the operator network the TCP enhancer provides more efficient useof valuable radio resources, leading to significantly increased revenues.

Chip Design

Through our chip design service we have successfully developed FPGAs and ASICs to be implemented within many networking products. Designs include a Lookup Engine Co-processor, a Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation ASIC for an ATM Switch and our own Network Processor FPGA.

Optical Hardware and Integrated Optics

With the advent of optical backplanes, optics are extending further into networking applications. Roke Manor Research has expertise in design, modelling and simulation of both optical hardware and integrated optics. Combined with our expertise in high-speed logic we have developed a state-of-the-art optical backplane called LightBus.

Network Processors

Network processors are expected to become the networking equivalent of the microprocessor. We were one of the first companies to identify a need for network processors and subsequently developed our own network processor core. More recently we have developed applications for some of the commercially available network processors.

Board Design

With our experience in board design we have designed prototype and
production PCBs for many customers. These designs include an ATM switch control card for a Statistical Multiplexing Unit and Line Interface Cards for Mobile base-stations.

SenTrak is an IP addressable Digital Video server, giving security users the ability to capture, stream, store and view security video, all backed by the reliability of the Linux OS.

Using a browser-based application on the desktop, or a Windows CE application on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), security professionals have anywhere, anytime accessibility, giving them increased surveillance flexibility and reduced response time.

All communications between Trakonic Video and third-party applications like your own utilize Trakonic's proprietary protocol called Network Security Communications Interface Protocol (NSCIP).
