VLab's products are not in direct competition with CAD (Computer Aided Design), VR (Virtual Reality), or IPD (Interactive Projection Display) companies. Most of these companies have solutions that are network enabled, and some are multicast enabled. Some IPD companies products could be enhanced, through implementing a multicast solution by which to distribute content to diverse locations. CAD and VR immersive environments have well developed interfaces for working with specific data objects. There are many companies involved with high-resolution interactive displays, that have implemented commercial solutions for curved projection environments. The ability to correct images for viewing on curved surfaces is a key capability for many IPD companies. These capabilities have their most refined expression in features such as: the projection of domed environments from off axis points of projection, and the optimization of the image for specific points of view. Projection on curved screens is a key feature of the Planetarium Theater format, we have identified 18 companies featuring dome or panoramic projection systems. These spectacle theater companies are also specializing in the production of visual content and in the public interfaces with displays. This field of public display systems overlaps with distance education systems.

The focus for VLab is to market a system by which to distribute large-scale video environments to multiple client locations or client browsers. The VLab systems make use of Open GL, and so provide a foundation for the multiplexed streaming of data environments that are found in IPDs, VR systems, and high end game environments.
